The world needs more good bookstores. The newest
addition to the local scene is Visible Voice Books, 1023
Kenilworth in Tremont. The shop is small but extremely
well composed with an ambiance of which Barnes & Noble
could only dream.
The shop's selection of used and new books would best
be described as concise and refined. It hits most
popular genres, including art, literature, history,
cooking, religion, etc. Also included are magazines. As
opposed to large book chains or incoherent used book
stores, Visible Voice excels at weeding through all the
junk out there to offer the stuff you actually want. This
does two things: Makes the store indespensible when you
just want to go some place where you'll find something
good; and it also inspires nearly uncontrollable impulse
purchases (and I'm OK with that).
